Teams and training schedules

Creating teams from structured attributes, building rosters, and publishing the weekly training grid.

For:Academy ownerCoachParentAthlete

A team is a squad that trains together and competes together. Once you have created one, added athletes to it and given it training times, everyone in your academy can see when their athlete trains — without a phone call or a group chat.

Creating a team

Open your academy page and choose the Teams tab. Only the owner and academy managers see it.

A team name has two parts, and only the first is yours to type:

Blackout (Junior Prep Level 4.2 Coed)

Blackout is the squad's own name. Everything in brackets comes from lists the platform maintains, so "Junior Level 4.2" means exactly the same thing at your gym as it does at every other gym on DanceCheer. That is what makes teams comparable across academies, and it is why the divisions are picked rather than typed.

The cheer stunt level

Choose the complete stunt level from the list. Decimal levels such as 4.2 appear as their own option alongside the whole-number levels.

Changing a team later

You can rename a team and change its attributes at any time; the display name recomposes itself. You cannot change a team's discipline — a cheer squad and a dance squad are different teams, so create a new one.

Building a roster

Choose Roster on any team. Search, tick the athletes who belong on it, and save.

  • Only athletes with an approved membership at your academy can be added. If someone is missing, check the Requests tab.
  • Both adult athletes and parent-managed children appear. Children show the name of the parent who manages them, so two athletes with the same first name are easy to tell apart.
  • An athlete can be on as many teams as you like.

The weekly grid

The Schedule tab shows the training week: days across the top, time down the side, one coloured block per session.

The schedule is a template that repeats every week. There are no dates on it — "Monday 4:30pm" means 4:30pm at your gym, every Monday, until you change it. Times are local to the academy; nothing is converted for anyone.

  1. Add a session

Choose Add a session, then pick the team, the day, and the start and end times. You can also give it a location like "Floor 2" and a colour so the grid is easy to scan.

  2. Name the coach

Each session names its own coach or coaches, so one squad's Monday tumbling and Wednesday stunt sessions can be run by different people. The list contains your approved coaches, your managers, and you.

  3. Edit from the grid

Click any block to change its times, move it to another day, or remove it. To move a session to a different team, delete it and add a new one — that changes whose schedule it appears on.

Overlapping sessions

If you schedule a team into two sessions that overlap on the same day, the platform flags it and still saves it.

Two different teams training at the same time is not flagged at all. That is a normal Wednesday.

The schedule is only ever visible to approved members of the academy. A pending request is not enough — approval is what decides who gets to know when and where children train.

Finding your own schedule

Approved members see the whole academy's week, with their own sessions highlighted:

  • Athletes 18 and over see their teams ringed and labelled on the academy grid, and get a Schedule tab on their own profile.
  • Parents see each managed athlete's teams highlighted in that athlete's own colour, with their initials on the block. If two of your children are on the same squad, both appear on the one block. Your profile's Schedule tab lists each athlete separately, under their own heading.

A colour legend above the grid says who each accent belongs to, and every block carries the names in its description for screen readers — colour is never the only signal.

For platform administrators Super admin

The division, level, tier, team type, skill level and style lists are platform-wide and editable at Team attribute options from your profile. You can add an option, rename one, or reorder how it appears in the picker.
