Managing your children

Adding child athlete profiles, and how under-18 athletes work on DanceCheer.

For:Parent

Athletes under 18 do not have their own DanceCheer login. They exist as profiles managed from a parent's account.

Adding a child

From the profile menu choose My athletes, then Add an athlete. You will need:

  • Their first and last name
  • Their date of birth — used to place them in the correct age division
  • An academy, optionally — only academies where you are already an approved parent are offered, and choosing one sends a request rather than linking them straight away

Ages Athlete profiles accept run from 3 up to 17. From 18, they create their own account.

Choosing an academy

Adding a child to an academy takes two approvals, in order.

  1. You join the academy as a parent and its owner approves you. Do this from your profile — see Joining an academy.
  2. Each child is then requested separately, and the owner approves them one at a time.

Until step one is done, that academy does not appear in the athlete screens at all. This is deliberate: a club decides who its families are, and no one can attach a child to a club that has not accepted the parent.

The academy field is optional, so you can add a child now and request an academy later.

Requesting an academy later

In the My athletes list, press Join an academy on a child's row. The list shows only academies where you are an approved parent, with a Join button on each row.

If a request was declined, the button reads Request again and reopens the same request, so the owner sees the history rather than a first-time ask.

Duplicate profiles

If you try to add the same child twice — same name and date of birth — you will be told the profile already exists rather than ending up with two records that split their competition history.

Seeing when they train

Once an academy adds your child to a team and publishes its training times, a Schedule tab appears on your profile with one section per athlete — clearly separated, so a family with two children on different squads can tell one timetable from the other. The academy's full weekly grid highlights your children's sessions in their own colours. See Teams and training schedules.

When your child turns 18

Their profile is built to carry across to an account of their own, so the results they earned as a junior stay attached to them. That handover is not built yet; for now the profile simply remains under your account.

What is coming

Registering a child into a specific competition, and viewing their scores and placings, both depend on the scoring system currently being built. What exists today is the profile and its approved links to academies.
